Ozone is active oxygen. Ozone (at the levels used in hot tubs) is harmless and reacts quickly with contaminants in water, making it ideal for use in hot tubs to help purify the water. Ozone is generated by ultraviolet (UV) light or by corona discharge (CD). Older units found in hot tubs use UV light ozonators, now largely replaced by the more efficient CD chip units. Ozone is very gentle to skin and eyes and is pH neutral.

  • Ozonators
Ozonators in hot tubs are either (a) UV light units or (b) CD chip units. The older UV light units can easily be replaced with the more effective, efficient and longer lasting CD chip units that we sell. We do not offer the UV light systems.
  • Ozone Sundries
Ozone is injected into the water by means of a Mazzei injector. A venturi draws the ozone into the injector and it is mixed with the water stream passing through the mazzei unit. The ozonated water is mixed with the water in the hot tub. This section in the shop includes the Mazzei injectors, non-return valves and tube - Ozone Sundries.
  • Ozone Testing
As many as 60% of home spa ozonators are either producing insufficient ozone, or none at all. Bubbles in the ozone jet water stream do not indicate the ozonator is working. UV light ozonators require new light tubes every 6-12 months and CD chip ozonators require a new chip every 12-24 months. Even then, CD ozonators can only take one replacement chip before the complete unit requires replacing. Spa ozone testing takes 30 seconds. If the test shows no ozone is being produced (test kit media stays blue) the test kit can be used again within a year.
